Best Christmas gift ideas for the person who has everything

We all know one – the person who already has everything they need, and is therefore impossible to buy a Christmas present for. And let’s be honest, it’s usually a grandparent. After all, they’ve been on the planet long enough to save up for most things they actually need!

My father-in-law is the number one candidate in my life – over the last 15 years I’ve bought him a range of gifts ranging from the desperate to the downright weird – gardener seeds for purple carrots? Check!

One year I baked cookies shaped like Christmas trees. You can never have enough cookies, after all.

But since my eldest son made his entrance, gift giving has got so much easier! After all, what grandparent doesn’t want an endless supply of photographs of their beautiful grandchild?

Now, I either design a photographic present, such as an album or piece of wall art, or I gift a session to have photographs taken with my sons.
If you’re looking for something for the person in your life who has everything, why not give them a photoshoot experience (and it is an experience: spending time with their family having fun) and capturing those moments in beautiful photographs?

The Gift of Memories – why photographs are important

All the money in the world can’t buy you more time. That’s never been more transparent to us all than this year where “the new normal” is now a widely used phrase and Christmas is a distance from the celebration we’re used to.

My youngest son has spent more than half his first year of life locked down, time he’ll never get back to spend with his grandparents. Children change so fast – it seems such a cliché, but sometimes you really can blink and miss the moment.

I firmly believe that the best present you can give someone is time spent together, making memories.

I lost my Nanny recently. She was a fiercely loving lady with four sons, and she was very much the sun around which her large family orbited.

During her funeral, one of my cousins had put together a slideshow of photographs from her life, including images of her with my dad, myself and each of my boys, all as tots. Beaming as she proudly holds her great-grandsons…they’re pictures that mean the world to me.

They help to keep our memories of her fresh and vivid, and to remind us of happy times. As MasterCard would say, they’re priceless.

Running through the fire for photographs

I’m also a firm believer that having photographs displayed up on your walls can have a huge impact on the confidence and self-esteem of us all.

I want my boys to be in absolutely no doubt when they glance around our home about how important they are – photographs are everywhere! Maybe I’m overcompensating – I’m definitely guilty of that British stereotype of not telling people how I feel about them enough!

Photographs as a luxury Christmas gift idea for grandparents

But when it comes down to it, if my house was on fire, I’d save the photographs. I’d get the kids and the dogs first, of course. (Hubby can get himself out I assume!) But the next thing on the list would be the images that time immortalise the memories we’ve made together.

The gift of memories is the best present you could give this Christmas.

What about the elephant in the room: COVID-19

Booking a photoshoot during the coronavirus pandemic?

It’s an uncertain time right now, and I appreciate it feels a bit strange to be booking or purchasing a session into the future when it’s not always clear what that holds for the moment.

I offer my Covid-19 guarantee: if it is not possible to complete a session as planned, I will rearrange the session or offer a full refund. I will never hold onto your money when it’s not feasible to offer the service and experience we’ve arranged.

Holidays might be a pipe dream right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have an enjoyable experience closer to home! And this way, you have peace of mind that it can be arranged in advance with all the excitement and anticipation that brings.

How to purchase your gift

You can choose a voucher for the value of a session, or select a gift card for a monetary value which can be put towards any session I offer, from newborn and baby photographs to child and family portraits.

Whether you’re looking for photographs of a child on their own, with siblings, parents, grandparents or cousins, these are all great images to capture for posterity.

My gift vouchers come presented in a luxury gift box with a Christmas treat or two, and I can also beautifully wrap them for you if desired.

Then all that’s left to do is for you to write a heartfelt message on the tag and give your loved one a gift they’ll treasure forever.
