5 more tips for a magical Baby’s First Christmas
After I published yesterday’s blog, my brain went into overdrive thinking of other things you could do to make baby’s first christmas magical. So here are another five ways to really make this Christmas extra special, even if you are in lockdown!
1. Choose a timeless Christmas stocking
When I was little, younger than I can remember, my parents bought matching Christmas stockings for my brother and I. White stockings, with red tops and a Santa who looked like he was made from fuzzy-felt (remember that?!)
Are you hanging up a stocking on your wall?
My Santa now has no eyes, nose or mouth, no buckle on his belt…he’s seen better days in all honesty. But every year, without fail, I pull him out of the box and hang him next to the stockings we bought each of our sons for their first Christmas. It’s tradition!
2. Let baby engage with the Christmas tree
Nothing says Christmas quite like a Christmas tree, so what better way to give your baby some magical moments than playing with the greenery!
Fairy lights are an obvious attraction here, but in my experience babies also love baubles. They often have great textures for tiny fingers to play with, they’re usually bright colours, and if you give them a spin then they tend to reflect light around and produce pretty patterns. The novelty is also exciting, and really helps give Baby’s First Christmas that bit of extra magic sparkle.
This is definitely one of those activities you’ll want to supervise your little one to ensure they don’t pull the tree on top of themselves, or eat the bauble (my youngest would definitely try, given half a chance!) but it’s also one that your baby will love.
3. Don some festive PJs
Maybe you’re Team Matching Family PJs, maybe you’re not, but there’s no reason your little one shouldn’t get to dress for the festive spirit!
There are loads of great options around – Next and George have some lovely Christmas clothing this year (in fact Next have a whole Baby’s First Christmas section, including custom babygrows) and JoJo Maman Bebe always has some classic outfits too.
Christmas jumpers are another good option – Jojo’s are pretty good for those too, as modelled below by my boys!
4. Dance with your baby to some seasonal music
Music is a huge draw for most babies, and nothing goes better with music than a little dance! For me, as soon as the Christmas music starts playing in shops and on the radio, it really adds to the festive spirit and makes the season feel that bit more magical. Throw in a boogie and you’re onto a winner!

Whether you love the old classics or more modern takes, your little one won’t mind which Christmas songs you choose to bop around to! They’ll just love spending time with you, and being on the move! Even little monkeys approaching their first birthdays still love to be waltzed around by their favourite people.
5. Make a memory box or scrapbook
Since your little one is unlikely to remember much of the celebrations in a month, let alone a year or two, why not think about putting together something to remember all the fun you’ve had together.
You could create a simple scrapbook, collating photographs of the different activities and experiences you’ve enjoyed together.
Or you could go a step further and put together a memory box, which could include the outfit your little one wears on Christmas day, a square of wrapping paper from their first ever Christmas present, or a copy of the lyrics to their favourite Christmas song.
No matter how you choose to record the Christmas season, you can be sure that in the years ahead, your baby will love looking back at how you spent their first Christmas, and know how very much they are loved.
But however you choose to celebrate your Baby’s First Christmas, I hope you have a magical day filled with love, laughter and beautiful memories.
Merry Christmas.
